Who we are

Barbatana Studio is the custom-song service of Barbatana Productions, a music studio based in Houston, Texas. When this page says “we” or “us”, it means Barbatana Productions.

What we collect

• Your interview answers. The occasion, the person, your story, names and personal details, the feeling, the sound and the voice you choose — everything you write while creating your song, including drafts that save as you go.
• Your contact details. Your name, your email address and any other contact details you choose to give us, so we can reach you about your song and send you sign-in links.
• Your song files. The lyrics written for you, the finished audio files our producers upload, and the message you add to a gift page.
• Basic technical data. A few essential cookies and similar browser storage — for example to keep you signed in and remember your language and theme — and the standard logs every web server keeps.

How we use it

• To write and produce your song: drafting the lyrics, reviewing and refining them, and producing the track.
• To send you notifications about your song — for example when your lyrics are ready or your song has been delivered — and the sign-in links you ask for.
• To reply when you write to us.

We use your information only for these purposes.

AI processing

Our AI music director drafts lyrics using OpenAI’s API. To do that, we send OpenAI the parts of your interview needed to write the song — the story, names and details you chose to include. We never send your contact details to the AI.

These requests are made with storage turned off (store: false), so they are not saved for later retrieval. OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models, although it may keep request data for a limited time to detect abuse, under its own policies. We never use your story to train AI models.

AI output is only a first draft: a Barbatana producer reviews and refines every song before it is made.

Who can see your story

Your story, lyrics and song are visible to you and to the Barbatana producers working on your song. A gift page can be opened only by people who have its private link, and you can turn it off at any time. We also rely on a small number of service providers to run the studio — such as hosting, email delivery and the AI processing described above — who handle data only on our behalf.

How long we keep it

• Drafts you start but never submit are deleted automatically after 30 days.
• Songs you submit — with their story, lyrics and files — are kept so you can come back to them, until you delete them or ask us to.

Deleting your data

You can delete a song, together with its story, lyrics and files, from its song page at any time. You can also email us at hello@barbatana.com and we will delete your data for you, including your contact details.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
